Datil Prune Bon-Bon
Estate prunes
These prunes do not come from Agen. They come from here.
From the limestone hillsides of Quercy Blanc, where our Datil plum trees—ancestors of the Ente plum—grow among truffle oaks and Louis-Dominique’s vines.
Each plum tree supports two grapevines.
The result: limited fruit, but exceptional flavor concentration.
Planted in March 2020 during the first lockdown, our 350 plum trees yielded their first true harvest this summer: barely 70 kg.
In other words: nothing industrial, entirely artisanal. We have prepared only a few jars for connoisseurs.
We semi-dried them to preserve their natural tenderness and bright acidity.
Of course, like all Maison Duler products, they contain no additives or preservatives. Just sun-drenched fruit, semi-dried.
Upon tasting: the thin skin gives way, the flesh melts, and the flavor extends that of the fresh fruit—somewhere between wild plum and ripe fig.
How to use them?
- Perfect on their own, enjoyed like sweets.
- as an accompaniment to foie gras or aged cheese.
- Also try one of Patrick's recipes: prunes with Gascon Pork ventrèche.
- You can also rehydrate them in meat juices; they will soak up the flavors and bring a subtle sweetness to your dish. Ideal with chicken, pork, veal, or lamb from the truffle orchards...
- steamed to rehydrate, they will find their place in your couscous.
- for dessert, prepare prunes in wine...
Why these prunes are unlike any other
- Grown from an heirloom Datil variety, found nowhere else
- Grown using agroforestry and companion planting: plum trees, truffle oaks and vines
- Slow-dried at low temperature, semi-dried, without additives or preservatives
- Highly limited production: only a few dozen kilos per year
A few words before you decide
This is not just another fine food product.
It is a rare fruit from an arid land, born of a lockdown and a wager: to bring a forgotten variety back to life.
In their words:
“True flavors that we had forgotten.”
C. M. and Sylvain from Martinique
“Finally, wholesome, natural products that are good for both body and soul.”
