The soap

To make soap, water is needed. On the estate, we have the pure water of our Source aux Loups.

A fat is also required. Naturally, we use the lard from our Gascon pigs raised on pastures between woods and meadows.

Through the cold process saponification method, we preserve all the soap's glycerin, ensuring optimal skin hydration.

Entirely handmade in very limited batches, we take the time to let them dry and harden for over 12 months in the open air. Just as with our foies gras or hams, our soaps improve with time. As they age, they become gentler and richer in lather.

This SAIN & DOUX soap is delicately scented with lavender essential oil distilled on the estate, known for its soothing and healing properties,

Lard

It is the foundation of our soap. It comes from Gascon pigs raised outdoors. Lard is the fine flare fat from the pig; it is wholesome and gentle at once, hence its name. Its use in our cosmetics may seem anachronistic; however, lard has been recognized and used since Antiquity for the preparation of cosmetic and therapeutic balms and ointments.

In 2015, we wanted to learn more and had our Gascon pork lard analysed by a specialised laboratory.
The physical-chemical analysis confirmed the high content of unsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3), making it a product of great nutritional value for the body, both internally and externally.
This reinforced our choice of lard for our cosmetics over fashionable exotic oils (coconut, shea, argan, etc.) whose true origin or production methods are often unknown.

The 100% lard soap

This Sain & Doux soap produces less lather than certain Marseille soaps.

It is a choice linked to its composition: it is made exclusively from lard, without coconut oil, which is the most common ingredient for obtaining an abundant lather.
We have prioritised skin gentleness and comfort over the foaming effect.
The amount of lather is not an indicator of washing efficiency.
