Rich in glycerin thanks to the cold process saponification method, and made with water from our own spring, it respects the skin and nourishes it deeply.
For use on the Body, Face, and Hair, and for shaving.

If used by two people for all their washing and shaving, this soap lasts one month—costing just €2 per week, per person!

The soap

To make soap, one needs water. On the estate, we have the pure water from our Source aux Loups.

A fat is also required. Naturally, we use the lard from our Gascon pigs raised on pastures between woods and meadows.

Through the cold process saponification method, we preserve all the soap's glycerin, ensuring optimal skin hydration.

Entirely handmade in very limited batches, we take the time to let them dry and harden for over 12 months in the open air. Just as with our foies gras or hams, our soaps improve with time. As they age, they become gentler and richer in lather.

This WHOLESOME & GENTLE soap is delicately scented with organic rosemary essential oil distilled on the estate. Rosemary is known for its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, ideal for oily skin.

Lard

It is the foundation of our soap. It comes from Gascon pigs raised outdoors. Lard is the fine flare fat from the pig; it is wholesome and gentle at once, hence its name. Its use in our cosmetics may seem anachronistic; however, lard has been recognized and used since Antiquity for the preparation of cosmetic and therapeutic balms and ointments.

In 2015, we wanted to learn more and had our Gascon pork lard analyzed by a specialized laboratory.
The physico-chemical analysis confirmed the high content of unsaturated fatty acids (omega 3), making it a product of great nutritional value for the body, both internally and externally.
This reinforced our choice of lard for our cosmetics in preference to fashionable exotic oils (coconut, shea, argan, etc.) whose true origin or production methods are often unknown.

This SAIN & DOUX soap is delicately scented with lavender essential oil distilled on the estate, known for its soothing and healing properties,

Lard

The 100% lard soap

This Wholesome & Gentle soap produces less lather than some Marseille soaps.

This choice is linked to its composition: it is made exclusively from lard, without coconut oil, which is the most common ingredient used to obtain abundant lather.
We have prioritized skin softness and comfort over the lathering effect.
The amount of lather is, moreover, not an indicator of cleaning effectiveness.

Lard produces a lather:

fine and creamy
very gentle
but less abundant than soaps rich in coconut (copra) or palm kernel oil.

In fact, many modern Savon de Marseille soaps contain coconut oil, which is one of the most foaming oils used in soap-making. They will therefore produce more lather.

This is not a flaw in our soap. On the contrary, the qualities of a 100% lard-based soap lie elsewhere:

it hydrates the skin, leaving a protective film
it is exceptionally gentle
it leaves a more comfortable sensation after washing
it is long-lasting

We did not seek to make the soap that foams the most, but the one that best respects the skin.

A traditional tip...

Kept in your wardrobe among woollens, it serves as a natural moth repellent!
